The Bangladesh Catering Association (BCA) is calling on every community to join us and other ethnic communities on our Day of Action on Sunday 20th April 2008 at London’s Trafalgar Square.
Together with the Chinese, Indian, Pakistani and Turkish catering
communities we have formed the Ethnic Catering Alliance. Our action
on the 20th April is to draw the country’s attention to the plight and
problems our communities are all facing as a direct result of current
immigration policies.
The Ethnic Catering Alliance has the following demands. We call on the
Government to:
Recognise the unique characteristics of ethnic catering, and to put the occupations in these businesses on the Occupations
Shortage List.
Stop all disruptive Border Immigration Agency (BIA) actions.
Recognise urgently our industry as an area of skills shortage
and relax the rules accordingly to allow urgent recruitment.
Recognise the unique language and authentic characteristics of
ethnic catering.
Work with our communities and invest in training
programmes, which would resolve long-term labour problems
in the British ethnic catering businesses and provide
employment opportunities for local people.
Support the move to regularise undocumented workers.
This will be the first time when people from diverse British migrant
communities come together to show our feelings and make our views
known to politicians. Over the years we have contributed much to this country; now
is the time for the politicians to listen to us and pay attention to the needs of
our communities.
Now is the time to take our problems together with our proposed
solutions to the politicians. Help yourself; help your community to speak
out; join the demonstration – Now is not the time to be silent.
